How do I access the Colosseum Underground areas?

How do I get to the Colosseum?

The Colosseum is located in the heart of Rome and is accessible by many transport options.  The easiest way is to take public transport to the Piazza del Colosseo. The Colosseo Metro station is a 4-minute walk from there. If you decide to go by the Rome Metro, take the metro on Line B (blue line). If you prefer to take the bus, please note that several bus lines pass by the Colosseum, and the bus station is also at the Piazza del Colosseo. Is there a specific time for entrance to the Colosseum?

When you make your reservation, you will choose your specific date and time for the visit. We advise that you arrive 10 minutes before your scheduled time. Remember to bring a valid ID, as you will need it for security checks at the gate.

Is the Colosseum accessible for people with reduced mobility?

The main entrance is step-free, and disabled people can easily enter. Visitors in wheelchairs can access the ground floor and the middle tier by taking the elevator, which has space for two wheelchairs at a time.

Are there toilet facilities at the Colosseum?

Several toilet facilities are located inside the Colosseum, near the entrance. There are also changing rooms for babies and a nursing station for mothers.

Can I bring a bag and luggage to the Colosseum?

You can enter the Colosseum with a small bag, but large bags, backpacks, and suitcases are not allowed. The Colosseum has no locker facilities, so we suggest you avoid carrying large bags. Can I visit the Colosseum with small children?

The Colosseum is accessible for baby strollers and offers two specially designed rooms for children's use, equipped with changing and breastfeeding facilities.

Can I bring food and drinks to the Colosseum?

Food and drinks are not allowed inside the Colosseum, but you can refill plastic water bottles at the water fountains inside. There are no restaurants or other food outlets at the Colosseum, but plenty of restaurants and cafes are nearby, so we advise that you eat before or after your visit.
