I was staying at a friend's place in the Rome city center and found this amazing place while I was searching online for stuff to do. I decided to visit the Borghese Gallery and did not regret it. It was great!! After the gallery visit, I decided to walk around the beautiful gardens surrounding the villa. I’m really happy I got skip-the-line tickets because I didn’t have to waste time since I only had a few days in Rome.
Incredible art gallery in the center of Rome
So happy I’ve decided to buy Borghese Gallery tickets! Not only is the gallery filled with the most amazing art, but it is also located in the center of Rome, so it's easy to get there. There weren't big crowds and I was able to stroll around at my own pace. 'The Rape of Proserpina' sculpture is so beautiful, filled with many details you cannot see through the picture. Highly recommend visiting the Borghese Gallery while in Rome!

FROM CARAVAGGIO…
The Borghese Gallery is one of the world's most famous art galleries. It holds a big part of the private art collection begun by Cardinal Scipione Borghese, the nephew of Pope Paul V. Exhibited here are paintings by Caravaggio, who had a huge influence on modern painting and is known for realism and the technique of chiaroscuro. Notable works include: Boy with a Basket of Fruit, Saint Jerome Writing, and David with the Head of Goliath.
…TO BERNINI
Another great artist whose works adorn the halls of the Villa Borghese is Gian Lorenzo Bernini, one of the best sculptors of the 17th century, the creator of the Baroque style of sculpture and the architect who worked on St. Peter's Basilica and its square. Two of his masterpieces are the "Rape of Proserpina", which represents the god Pluto capturing Proserpina and taking her to the underworld, and the sculpture of David about to throw the stone that will bring down Goliath. Book the Borghese Gallery ticket to see the fine details on these sculptures that make them masterpieces, which you can't see through a screen.
UNCOVER HISTORY IN NATURE
After you finish exploring the beautiful Borghese Gallery, take a nice walk through the Villa Borghese Gardens. See the Pinciano Obelisk, which dates back to the 2nd century. It will remind you of the Roman fascination with ancient Egypt. The Temple of Diana, on the other hand, will remind you of their love of ancient Greek culture. Not only is there great art here, but interesting works of engineering, as well. There is a water clock from the 19th century hidden among the vegetation. A system of basins and siphons is used to tell time. Accurately!

Was Caravaggio a genius painter or a ruthless criminal?
Caravaggio, or Michelangelo Merisi, was a leading Italian painter of the 16th and 17th centuries. His works are famous for their realism, and he had a big influence on Western artists such as Rembrandt. His influence extends to other art forms – he even inspired the famous filmmaker Martin Scorsese. Although Caravaggio was a famous painter, his personal life was very tumultuous. He committed assault and murder and then ran from the authorities.
His success started to take off at the time he first appeared in Roman criminal records in relation to an unsolved case of a missing cloak and dagger. He was arrested multiple times after that, but his worst crime involved one of his female models, who was a prostitute. Caravaggio and her pimp got into a duel, and the painter killed his opponent. He was convicted, and anyone had the right to kill him in exchange for a reward, so he spent the rest of his life as a fugitive.
Although he committed atrocities, many still consider him a highly influential artist. You can see a collection of his paintings in the Borghese Gallery and learn more about the artist's life.
